Welcome to the Pacific Barrel Racing Association home page.

We are a club based in Southern California. The PCBRA was founded in 1988 and 20 years later, is still one of the largest barrel racing associations in Southern California. As our name suggests, the main objective of the club is to promote barrel racing in Southern California.

Our show season starts out in the fall with our first Jackpot and runs until our finals. Be sure to check out our Upcoming Events for an accurate schedule.
PCBRA runs a 4D format

    PCBRA UPDATES:

The next weekend race will be at the Gibson Arena on July 19th.  This is an evening race.  S/U at 5:30p.m.  Please do not arrive before 5 pm.

Thursday night barrel races have started up at the Cooper Arena.  They will run until the last Thursday in Aug.

Don't forget... you need ten races in the open to qualify for the finals.  This year the finals will be on Sept. 13th at the Breeze E ranch in Acton.   Also you must sell 40 raffle tickets before the finals.  Raffle tickets are $1. and they are for a Cecil Phillips Saddle.

For every open race you enter this year a ticket with your name on it goes in a drawing for a Cecil Phillips Saddle.  The more races you enter and the more horses you enter, the more tickets you get!

Please pay your entry fees in cash!!

PCBRA is a members only club.  Sorry but we do not allow day permits.  A membership is $50. and it expires after the finals in Sept.
On some of our big races we do allow day permits but we will advertise it as such.  Also, in the summer for our Thursday night races you do not have to be a PCBRA member to run at those because we offer an American West race.

This year we will raffle off a saddle at our finals that can only be won by a PCBRA member.   Every time you enter a PCBRA race starting with the Dec. 29th race,  there will be raffle tickets for you to put your name on.  You will get a ticket for every horse you enter.  The drawing will be at the finals and you MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!  There is no cost for a ticket other then your entry.  The more races you come to and the more horses you enter the more tickets you get.  You must enter the open to get a ticket.  Youth entries do not count.
We will still have the raffle saddle for $1. tickets that will also be drawn at the finals.

Thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers throughout the year! We couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks to our sponsors that year after year continue to support our club.

Contestants, here is our policy regarding a timer malfunction.  If you make a run and you do not hit a barrel and the timer does not work, you may make another run.  You will forfeit your money if you don't wish to run your horse a second time.  You do not get a refund.  If you make a run and you hit a barrel and the timer does not work you will get a " no time".  A hit barrel is a "no time" whether or not the timer worked.
Every effort is made to ensure the timer is working properly.  Unfortunately timer malfunctions happen.

The PCBRA depends on donations for added money at the races and a lot of our awards.  If you would like to make a donation please contact a board member.

Due to the many new young members that have joined the PCBRA, we have decided to do a youth class at our races.  It will be a standard $28. entry fee with $20 going back to the pot. Points will be accumulated throughout the year and awards will be presented at the PCBRA finals in Sept.  Here are the youth rules:

1. You must be 15 years of age or younger as of  Nov. 17th 2007.

2. Points will be kept on the rider only.  Rider may ride more than one horse, however will only receive points on the highest placing in each D.

3. Points will be tracked throughout the year, and prizes will be awarded by points in each D.  It is undetermined at this time what the prizes will be and how far down the prizes will be awarded.  This will be determined by the turnout during the year.

4. The youth may enter the open, however you must carry your time over.  You may only run once.  If you wish to enter both the youth and the open you must do so at the time you sign up.

5. The youth will be run with the Open draw and the youth time will be tracked separately.

6.  There will not be a youth division held at the finals, however the awards will be awarded at the end of the finals at the awards presentation.  In the event you have points in various divisions, you will receive the award for the division you have the most points in.  ( Because this is a youth class, we would like to award as many prizes to as many riders as possible, this is why we are only allowing one award to be won per rider).

*******************************************************

Please members remember to pay in cash when entering the races.  And please no alcoholic beverages at the races.  Thank you.

Remember to call the hotline or check the web site for cancellations or changes to barrel races due to weather.  Rain is not the only reason to cancel a race.  Here in the desert we can get high winds which make it impossible to have a race.

Other information you may need: Please pay cash when entering a race. We can not do a cash payoff if everyone writes a check.

Contestants are required to wear boots when competing. This is required by our insurance.

Don't forget, we now have a "barrel races attended" page. It is your responsibility to let me know immediately if the amount of races you are credited for is incorrect. Please keep track of the races you attend.

For those of you that didn't read the newsletter, there are no more day permits. You must be a member to run at any PCBRA race. You will also have to make 10 races to compete at the finals. Period. This is to ensure that the contestants that are winning our year end money and awards are contestants that have supported the club all year. The added money at the finals comes from $2. of every entry fee. It is hardly fair to have someone who has only attend a few races win the money that the others have invested in.

The hot line number will be staying the same. (805) 289-4885. Always call the hot line if you have any doubts that a race could be cancelled.

Be sure to check out our Front Page News page for more important club happenings.
